Brigid’s House is providing New Hampshire’s first state-wide accessible long-term restorative safe house for victims of Human Trafficking and Exploitation. The safe house is located in a confidential location in New Hampshire and is open to female victims and survivors of Human Trafficking and Exploitation over the age of 18. The physical location of the safe house consists of 3-apartment style units with two bedrooms in each unit, allowing for up to 6 women to participate in the long-term residential program. In addition to safe housing, Brigid’s House is also providing residents with food and basic necessities, case management, programming, and is connecting residents to critical medical and mental health services through a variety of community linkage agreements and partnerships. Brigid’s House is addressing the lack of safe housing for victims and survivors of Human Trafficking in New Hampshire and working with community partners to build a whole person recovery and support network. Providing survivors of Human Trafficking a safe space to heal, the basic need for survival – housing and safety – will aid in their ultimate transition to independence and to ultimately safely reintegrate into their community.
Brigid’s House has grown its program to also have the ability to serve survivors of Human Trafficking in the community, through our Rapid Rehousing Rental Assistance program. This additional opportunity allows for victims and survivors to live independently in the community of their choosing, while still receiving intensive case management and to continue utilizing the extensive network of support services developed by Brigid’s House. This program allows Brigid’s House to also extend those able to be helped and supported to include women, families and male survivors.
Through diligent work with community partners to build a recovery network in order to best meet the needs of Brigid’s House clients, they then have the opportunity to take advantage of these partnerships. Including, but not limited to mental health services, medical and dental care, community and faith-based support, continuing education, job training, agencies able to furnish new apartments and many more. Brigid’s House welcomes the opportunities for additional community partnerships that may help any survivor’s path to healing. Specifically, Brigid’s House has a partnership with Lamprey Health. This partnership allows Brigid’s residents to access important medical care in a timely manner without having a long wait time. This is important because survivors often come in needing to connect with a Primary Care Provider and access other important medical care. Brigid’s House also has a partnership with Granite Recovery centers allowing clients to access emergent or ongoing substance misuse treatment. In addition to these important community partnerships, Brigid’s House offers Case Management services to support residents in identifying and meeting long-term goals. Brigid’s House recognizes that each survivor’s path to recovery is unique and staff assists each survivor to self-identify goals that will help them safely transition back into the community.

Just me! WordPress updates, facebook posts, and mailchimp campaigns, but everything is in house.
The Gundalow Company’s mission is to protect the Piscataqua region’s environment and maritime heritage through education and action. To do so, we use a sailing river barge named Piscataqua, which can sail with nearly 50 people onboard along the local rivers and bays of the Seacoast region.
The Gundalow Company based in Portsmouth, NH offers services for school field trip programs, most of which pay less than half of the operations costs to take kids sailing on our local rivers. In the past few years they have additionally coordinated Community Service Sails offering local groups of veterans, children/families with chronic illness, and people with physical limitations. The original website was built at least 12 years ago and is in need of a major upgrade to showcase all the programs involved. As a non-profit, the marketing budget has been meager.

Not really…. We do have an AdWords campaign funded by a Google non-profit grant, but we really can’t maintain it and we desperately need to as we have seen traction from it in the past. We maintain a limited presence on LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram. We do not have the bandwidth nor funds to utilize digital marketing in a way that could significantly increase awareness of our mission and ultimately funding. There is no doubt in my mind, that with an improved website and a digital marketing plan implemented by experts in the field that Birthday Wishes would be in a position to double the number of homeless families/children that we serve and continue to spark joy across the country!
The mission of Birthday Wishes is to improve and empower the lives of homeless children and their families by providing joy, play and hope through the magic of a birthday party. We work to ensure that children experiencing the trauma of homelessness never miss the opportunity to celebrate their birthday joyfully, surrounded by family, friends and others who care.
Birthday Wishes was founded in 2002 when we hosted our first birthday party for a five-year-old boy named Mohammad at the Second Step Shelter in Newtonville, Massachusetts. Since then, over 100,000 kids have experienced a
Birthday Wishes party across our 250 partner congregate shelters, substance abuse & domestic violence safe shelters, teen mom shelters, and scattered-site apartments in six states. Birthday Wishes’ co-founders began to transform thousands of children’s lives when they obtained their 501c3 status in 2004 and became the very first official non-profit organization to provide birthday parties to children living in homeless shelters.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to continue our work of spreading joy and hope through a birthday celebration and letting these children in need know that they mattered, we moved all shelters into our Birthday-in-a-Box program. Having consulted with our partner shelters and executing our program for almost two decades, we knew that the children desperately needed something to look forward to as day-to-day life was completely disrupted. Knowing that they were going to receive a birthday box filled with fun party supplies, cake mix, frosting and gifts selected just for them, allowed them to pause and have a moment and means to celebrate. After the world opened back up, our Birthday-in-a-Box deliveries to the shelters were, and now still are, met with excited birthday kids waiting to receive their personalized box filled with a complete birthday celebration.
This year (FY24, July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024), we will be celebrating 5000 birthdays and have just started serving a shelter in Los Angeles, California. Through the work of our dedicated staff and volunteers, we will have selected, wrapped and distributed over 20,000 gifts! Currently, we have a waiting list of 800 children in New England.

Does your Organization have any Digital Marketing Efforts Currently In Place : The organization does currently have a FaceBook page and an Instagram account that is primarily managed by the organization’s part-time administrative coordinator, with the support of three volunteer board marketing committee members.
Tell Us About your Non-Profit : Zebra Crossings’ mission is to enrich the lives of youth with chronic medical conditions by fostering greater self-confidence, a sense of independence and a desire to realize their full potential through fun and engaging enrichment programs that build a strong, and caring, community support network for families.
Organizational Overview
The moment a diagnosis of chronic illness is determined, a child’s world changes. They are set apart from others and are often perceived as limited. Parents fear for their child’s safety, feeling a greater need to protect and control their lives. Mainstream youth programs often contain unconscious barriers to inclusion – leaving children with chronic medical conditions feeling limited, different, or excluded.
Zebra Crossings removes these barriers by modifying programs to meet multiple abilities. Through their understanding of each other’s needs, the children are inspired by each other. They break through their personal perception of limitations, engage in fun activities, and feel empowered.
Founded in 2009, Zebra Crossings is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. The organization is a nonprofit based in Dover, New Hampshire, that will serve approximately 200 participants during calendar year 2024. Zebra Crossings offers a variety of programs: day programs, family events and overnight camp retreats. Programs allow children to renew their spirits through opportunities for play and to connect them with others who are facing similar challenges. Together they have new experiences, can be worry free for a while, and build lasting friendships.
Zebra Crossings’ programs are tailored to the pace and medical needs of participants, and are designed to develop each child’s skills, boost their independence, and reduce anxiety related to their medical condition. Programs are currently available to youth between ages 6 and 18. All programs are small and intimate in size. Overnight programs are offered at various locations across New Hampshire, while day programs are conducted primarily in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire. Participants engage in teambuilding activities, games, sports, swimming, crafts, and more. Through their experiences, participants learn and discover things about themselves that they can apply to their daily lives moving forward.
Program participants live with chronic medical conditions such as (but not limited to) diabetes, juvenile arthritis, epilepsy, autoimmune diseases, POTS syndrome, heart conditions, Down syndrome, CLOVES syndrome, Proteus syndrome, and asthma. Day program participants are primarily from the Seacoast region of New Hampshire and Maine and the greater-Boston area. Overnight programs typically draw families from the New England region as well as New York. Zebra Crossings collaborates with hospitals, physicians, and health networks across New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and beyond to reach its program participants.
Zebra Crossings collaborates with disease specific membership groups (such as It’s My Heart New England, the CLOVES Syndrome Community, and the Proteus Syndrome Foundation) and a variety of funders and sponsors who financially support programs to help keep program fees very reasonable. Scholarships are always available for children and families who don’t have the resources to pay program fees. No child or family is ever excluded from participating in a Zebra Crossings program due to financial challenge.
Zebra Crossings employs three part-time staff: an Executive Director, a Program Director, and an Administrative Coordinator, who collectively work 65 hours per week and who are supported by nine Board Members. Zebra Crossings also benefits from the contributions of volunteers, who typically provide as many as 1,250 hours of service each year.

Since its inception in 1993, volunteers have been called to assist victims at fires, explosions, fatal and serious injury crashes, suicides, untimely deaths , robberies, drownings, missing persons and infant deaths. They assist first responders by caring for the family so that they are able to focus on their other responsibilities. The sixty-hour volunteer training is delivered with the support of hospital personnel, lawyers, police and fire officials, clergy, media, funeral directors and counselors.
Why they nominated this Non-Profit:
I have been a trauma intervention volunteer for the past five years and have had the opportunity to support individuals when they experience a death in their family. It’s very challenging work but as we have heard from families, it is essential and appreciated as we guide them to take the next steps following the death. I have support families through drug overdoses, suicides, infant deaths, and untimely deaths. The program is unique among other grief counseling programs since it begins immediately following the loss of a loved one and continues for as long as the family needs our support.

Last year alone, our compassionate efforts at PMHS-CV yielded remarkable results. We opened our doors to 769 animals in dire need – dogs, cats, small animals, and birds – providing them with the care and support they so desperately needed. 95% of those animals were directly from our community. Additionally, we arranged foster care for 249 animals, ensuring they received the nurturing environments they deserved. But our dedication didn’t stop there. By coordinating a total of 330 field trips, we not only provided moments of joy and adventure but also extended much-needed relief beyond the confines of the shelter. The unwavering commitment of over 300 incredible volunteers, who selflessly dedicated a staggering 23,700 hours to the well-being of these animals in and out of the shelter, helped make this achievement a reality. Moreover, our Food Assistance Program made a significant impact, feeding 1,443 animals and supporting 483 families by offering free food, thus enabling beloved pets to remain in the loving homes they call their own. Through our collective efforts, we have truly made a difference, ensuring the welfare and happiness of countless animals in our community.
